Our Services
Diabetes

In order to keep well and healthy every person with diabetes needs good and regular healthcare. The control of your diabetes and the early detection and treatment of any possible problems is very important. Whether on tablets, insulin injections or a specialist diet, our nurses will provide you with the information you need to effectively manage your condition.
Respiratory Clinics - Asthma, COPD
(Chronic Bronchitis, Emphysema)

Our Respiratory Clinics are on a Wednesday between 09:30 and 20:00, and Friday between 08:00 and 18:00. They are for the routine monitoring of patients with Asthma or COPD and to follow up patients after an exacerbation (flare up) of Asthma/COPD to try to prevent another exacerbation. We encourage patients with these conditions to be seen in the clinic at least once a year for routine review unless you prefer to be seen by your own doctor. The clinic is run by our Respiratory Nurse Specialist. Appointments can be made by telephoning reception in the usual way, and asking for a Respiratory clinic appointment.
Your appointment will last 15-20 minutes and will offer you an opportunity for review and discussion about your Asthma/COPD. We aim to work with you to find the most appropriate treatment leading to optimum symptom control. Please bring ALL YOUR INHALERS with you.
We also provide help, support and education for patients and families of those with respiratory conditions. There is good evidence that regular attendance at clinic and monitoring/education of patients regarding their condition reduces the risk of emergency admission to hospital.
Spirometry (if required)
Our Respiratory Nurse Specialist and/or Health Care Assistant may ask you to perform a test by blowing into a machine. These appointments will take 20-50 minutes. This specialist test of lung function is particularly useful to help diagnose and monitor COPD and is sometimes used in assessment of Asthma control.
IF YOU ARE ACUTELY UNWELL please make an appointment with your doctor who will deal with new diagnosis of suspected respiratory conditions and acute problems such as exacerbations (flare ups) of Asthma/COPD and chest infections.
Childhood Immunisation
The childhood immunisation clinic is held weekly by one of the practice nurses. You will be sent an appointment by the surgery. Please click on the following link for more information.

Travel Advice & Vaccination
You will need to book an appointment with the Practice Nurse for travel vaccinations. The appointment is for the administration of the vaccines required for your travel destination.
To determine what vaccinations you may require and to obtain the relevant information for your travel we request that you to visit the following website:
www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk
The library has facilities for accessing the internet should you not have access at home.
Please print off the information on the destination you are travelling to, including all vaccinations needed and bring the information to your appointment.
To ensure we have the appropriate information for your upcoming travel we require you to complete a travel questionnaire. This can be obtained from the surgery. It is important that all information is completed as thoroughly as possible and the form is returned to the surgery prior to your appointment with the practice nurse. This is to ensure that we will have all the necessary travel vaccines available at your appointment. We will ask you to make another appointment should you not provide relevant information in advance.
All travel consultations should be booked 6-8 weeks prior to your date of travel to ensure optimum cover is achieved.
Cervical Smears
Smears are undertaken by the practice nurses. The age range has changed recently and if you are between 25 and 65 and have not had a cervical smear within the last three years we strongly advise you to make the most of this service as it helps prevent cancer of the cervix (neck of the womb).
Heart Disease Prevention
In order to prevent heart attacks and strokes the practice nurses offer advice, support and treatment to help patients to stop smoking, reduce weight, increase exercise and lower cholesterol levels.
Smoking Cessation
If you smoke, our practice nurses and healthcare assistants can help you find the best way for you to kick the habit. They can advise on how you can work through your own stop-smoking programme as well as how nicotine replacement therapy can be used appropriately to assist you.
Minor Surgery
Minor surgical procedures can be carried out at the surgery. The following conditions may be suitable for minor surgery:
-
Skin growths and lumps
-
Cysts
